# Bulk Autocomplete

Bulk Autocomplete collects the search suggestions Google, Bing, YouTube or Amazon shows while people type. Give it a list of seed keywords, choose how each seed is expanded, and SEO Utils looks up every variation and saves the suggestions in one report.

You can also let AI suggest more seeds for you, or fill a template with a list of things — for example, every coffee brewing method in `{brew method} coffee ratio`.

<div data-full-width="true"><figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2F0MSaISsqxm8Xl0XVcTrP%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-14.41.08.png?alt=media&amp;token=adca1f37-e180-47d3-8b71-14af7e603acd" alt=""><figcaption><p>A Bulk Autocomplete report with its suggestions and the seed each one came from</p></figcaption></figure></div>

## How It Works

1. **Seeds** — You type seed keywords, generate them with AI, or fill a template.
2. **Lookups** — Each seed is expanded into variations (for example `cold brew a`, `cold brew b`, `how to cold brew`), and each variation is looked up in the search engine's autocomplete. One variation is one lookup.
3. **Suggestions** — Every suggestion is saved with the seed it came from, after your filters (excluded words and the `*` pattern) have removed the ones you don't want.

## Running Bulk Autocomplete

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Open the Run Dialog**

Go to **Keyword Research > Bulk Autocomplete** in the sidebar and click **"Run Bulk Autocomplete"**.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2FizROaZ8PE52BVFePaBXj%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-14.42.12.png?alt=media&amp;token=e3b1cc16-ceb6-41c8-9b52-7960b8234e0c" alt=""><figcaption><p>The Run Bulk Autocomplete dialog</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Enter Seed Keywords**

Type or paste your seed keywords, one per line.

Use `*` as a wildcard to ask for words in a specific position. For example, `how to clean * machine` looks up `how to clean a machine`, `how to clean b machine`, and so on.

{% hint style="info" %}
Don't have many seeds yet? Click **"Generate seeds with AI"** under the box. See [Generating Seeds with AI](#generating-seeds-with-ai).
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Choose the Location, Language and Search Engine**

* **Location / Language** — The market you want suggestions for.
* **Search engine** — **Google**, **Bing**, **YouTube** or **Amazon**. SEO Utils remembers your choice for the next run.

{% hint style="info" %}
**YouTube** returns what people type in YouTube's search box, which is often different from Google: more "how to", tutorials, reviews and music. Use it to plan videos, or to find topics people prefer to watch rather than read.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Amazon** returns what shoppers type in an Amazon store's search box: product names, brands, sizes and features. Use it for product pages, listings and shopping content.

* Only locations with an Amazon store are offered, for example the United States (amazon.com), the United Kingdom (amazon.co.uk), Germany (amazon.de) and Japan (amazon.co.jp). Austria uses amazon.de.
* Amazon blocks heavy use sooner than Google. Use [proxies](/guide/how-to-use-proxies.md) and a few workers.
  {% endhint %}
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Choose How Each Seed Is Expanded**

Under **Expand each seed with**, pick one or both:

| Option | What it looks up | Lookups per seed |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- |
| **Letters a–z**               | A letter after and before the seed (`cold brew a`, `a cold brew`). For a seed with `*`, a letter or digit at each `*`. | About 52         |
| **Questions and comparisons** | Question and comparison words (`how to cold brew`, `cold brew vs …`). English only. | About 180 |

If you turn both off, each seed is looked up exactly as you typed it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Filter the Suggestions (Optional)**

* **Exclude words** — Type a word and press Enter. Any suggestion that contains one of these words is not saved. Whole words only: excluding `tea` drops "iced tea recipe" but keeps "teapot". Phrases such as `near me` work too.
* **Keep only suggestions that match the \* pattern** — For seeds with a wildcard, keep only suggestions that follow the same pattern. With `how to clean * machine`, "how to clean espresso machine" is kept and "how to clean a mirror" is dropped.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Adjust Advanced Settings (Optional)**

Open **Advanced** to change:

* **Workers** — How many lookups run at the same time (1 to 50). More workers finish sooner but use more CPU.
* **Use proxies** — Recommended for large runs so the search engine doesn't block you. See [How to Use Proxies](/guide/how-to-use-proxies.md).
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Check the Estimate and Run**

The bottom of the dialog shows how many lookups the run will make (for example **≈ 234 lookups**). The number updates as you change seeds and options, and it is exactly what the run will do.

Click **"Run"**. You go to the report page, where you can follow the progress. You can close the page or keep working — the run continues in the background.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="success" %}
SEO Utils remembers your expansion choices, the `*` pattern switch, workers, and proxies for the next run. Excluded words belong to one run and are not remembered.
{% endhint %}

## Generating Seeds with AI

Click **"Generate seeds with AI"** under the seed keywords box to open the AI helper. It has two tabs: **Related keywords** and **Fill a template**.

Nothing is looked up in the helper. The seeds you add join your run, and you review them before you click **"Run"**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The AI helper uses your own AI provider account. Before you start:

* Add your API key in **Settings > Services > AI Settings**.
* Choose the model in **Settings > General > Default AI Model**.

Each click on **Generate** is one request to your provider. **"My own list"** in the **Fill a template** tab needs no AI.
{% endhint %}

### Related Keywords

Use this tab to get seed ideas that contain a keyword, optionally kept inside a topic.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Describe the Ideas You Want**

* **Keyword** — Every idea will contain it (for example `cold brew`). SEO Utils fills this with your first seed.
* **Stay within a topic** (optional) — Keep ideas on one subject, such as `home brewing`. Leave it empty for broad ideas.
* **How many** — 10, 20, 30, or 50 ideas.

Click **"Generate"**.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2Fi6ucwtjn8ADcqoRDH9Yk%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-15.47.48.png?alt=media&amp;token=973cd431-fe99-498b-aa9d-24b49dc0f3a0" alt=""><figcaption><p>Related keyword ideas for "cold brew" in the AI helper</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Pick the Ideas to Keep**

All ideas are selected, except the ones marked on the right:

| Mark                      | Meaning                                                                                |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **excluded word** | The idea contains one of your excluded words, so all its suggestions would be dropped. |
| **already in your seeds** | It looks like a seed you typed. You can still select it. |
| **already added** | It is already in your AI seeds. |

Use **Select all** and **Clear** to change the selection quickly, or click **"Regenerate"** for a new list.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add the Seeds**

Click **"Add N seeds"**. The ideas appear under **Generated seeds** in the run dialog, marked as **AI related**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Fill a Template

Use this tab when you have one pattern and many things to put in it. Each value fills the slot and becomes a seed.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Write the Template**

Put one `{slot}` where the list goes, for example `{brew method} coffee ratio` or `best {dog breed} food`.

You can add `*` too, like `best {brew method} for *`. The wildcard expansion and the `*` pattern filter then apply to each filled seed.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2F4hIATk34Uaeh9HsmrgP3%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-14.43.49.png?alt=media&amp;token=a4ddd2c7-05cb-465d-98e8-8090ea3dbabb" alt=""><figcaption><p>A template with its slot, the list of values, and the preview of filled seeds</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Choose Where the List Comes From**

* **A list from AI** — Describe the list in **List all** (for example `coffee brewing methods`), choose **Up to** 10, 20 or 30 values, and click **"Generate"**.
* **My own list** — Type the values yourself. Press Enter or type a comma after each one.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Edit the Values**

The values appear as chips. Remove the ones you don't want and add your own — an AI list can be edited just like your own list.

The **Preview** shows the seeds that will be added. Values that are empty after cleanup, or that make a seed longer than 200 characters, are listed as dropped.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add the Seeds**

Click **"Add N seeds"**. The seeds appear under **Generated seeds**, marked **From templates**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

<details>

<summary>Template rules and error messages</summary>

* A template needs exactly one `{slot}`:
  * No slot shows **"Add one {slot} where the list goes"**.
  * Two or more show **"Use only one {slot}"**.
* The slot needs a name, like `{brew method}`.
* A template can't contain a comma, because commas separate seeds.
* Values are used as plain text: `*`, `{`, `}` and commas inside a value are removed.

</details>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Fewer wasted lookups for templates.** When a template doesn't start with its slot, such as `best {dog breed} food`, SEO Utils adds letters only **after** each filled seed. A query like "a best labrador food" is never useful, so those lookups are skipped. When the template starts with its slot, such as `{brew method} coffee ratio`, letters go before and after as usual. The estimate already reflects this.
{% endhint %}

### Reviewing Generated Seeds

Back in the run dialog, **Generated seeds** lists the seeds from the helper in groups (**AI related** and **From templates**).

* Click the **×** on a seed to remove it.
* Click **"Remove"** next to a group, or **"Remove all"**, to clear seeds in bulk.
* Click **"Generate more with AI"** to add more.

When generated seeds are present, **Expand each seed with** shows one row for **Seeds you typed** and one for **Generated seeds**, so each group can be expanded differently. By default, generated seeds get letters only; turn on questions for them if you need more.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2Fa4rQXxJx0XUn1YxBdUIL%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-15.50.41.png?alt=media&amp;token=597738c0-ea86-48ae-aaaf-7729229df6bc" alt=""><figcaption><p>Generated seeds in the run dialog with a separate expansion row</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
A run can use generated seeds only — you don't need to type any seed yourself. If the same keyword is both typed and generated, it is looked up once, as a typed seed.
{% endhint %}

## Report Detail Page

Click a report to open it. The header shows how many seeds of each type the run used (**typed**, **AI related**, **from a template**) and a summary of the run's settings: expansion, excluded words, the `*` pattern filter, and any templates.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2FwpyYdowh1KlbVl99PHPQ%2FXnapper-2026-09-27-15.56.53.png?alt=media&amp;token=b980af43-48f5-40cf-bd4e-6a2341c9c4e9" alt=""><figcaption><p>Report header with the seed types and the run settings</p></figcaption></figure>

While a run is in progress, the report shows how many lookups are done. Click **"Cancel run"** to stop it; suggestions saved so far are kept.

### Columns

| Column        | Description                                                                      |
| ------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Keyword       | The suggestion                                                                   |
| Volume | Monthly search volume (after Check Metrics) |
| Amazon Volume | Monthly Amazon search volume (Amazon reports only, after Check Amazon Volume) |
| CPC | Cost per click (after Check Metrics) |
| KD | Keyword difficulty (after Check Metrics) |
| Intent | Search intent (after Check Metrics) |
| Word Count | Number of words in the suggestion |
| Found from | The seed the suggestion came from, with its type (typed, AI · related, template) |

{% hint style="warning" %}
On a YouTube or Amazon report, **Check Metrics** fills in **Google** search volume, CPC and difficulty for the suggestions, and the column is named **Google Volume** to make that clear. YouTube does not publish search volume; for Amazon, use [Check Amazon Volume](#checking-amazon-volume).
{% endhint %}

### Filtering Suggestions

Use **Filters** to narrow the list:

* **Search** — Find suggestions by text.
* **Volume**, **CPC**, **Difficulty**, **Word Count** — Filter by range.
* **Amazon Volume** — Filter by range (Amazon reports only).
* **Seed type** — Show only suggestions from typed, AI related, or template seeds.
* **Seed Keyword** — Show only suggestions from one seed.

### Available Actions

| Action              | Description                                                                                                                    |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Check Metrics | Fetch search volume, CPC, difficulty, and intent for the suggestions |
| Check Amazon Volume | Fetch Amazon search volume for the suggestions (Amazon reports only, **Actions > Check Amazon Volume**) |
| Export | Download the suggestions as CSV, including the seed and its type, and Amazon Volume on an Amazon report (**Actions > Export**) |
| View log | See what the run did: lookups, failures, and how many suggestions each filter dropped (**Actions > View log**) |
| Save to List | Select suggestions, then **Bulk Actions > Save to List** to add them to [Saved Keywords](/guide/saved-keywords.md) |

### Checking Amazon Volume

On an Amazon report, **Check Amazon Volume** gets each suggestion's monthly search volume on Amazon from DataForSEO. It is a separate figure from Google search volume, and checking it does not change the **Google Volume** column.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Open the Dialog**

Filter the table to the suggestions you want (or keep all of them), then click **Actions > Check Amazon Volume**.

<figure><img src="https://1176579443-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2DwV6sJBiKjUHMDggb4d%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-dec8fff95761d8af7dd2c6c8e1fad4a6a2a8aa92%2Fbulk-autocomplete-check-amazon-volume.png?alt=media" alt="The Check Amazon Volume dialog"><figcaption><p>The Check Amazon Volume dialog: the switch for keywords not checked this month (1), the keyword count, cost and who pays (2), and the button that runs the check (3)</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Review the Count and the Cost**

* **Only keywords not checked this month** — On by default, so a second check this month costs nothing for keywords already checked.
* The dialog shows how many keywords will be checked and about how much it costs, for example **About $0.13 for 1,000 keywords**.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Run the Check**

Click **"Check Amazon Volume"**. The **Amazon Volume** column fills in when the check is done. A dash means Amazon had no figure for that keyword; hover over it to see when it was checked.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Check Amazon Volume works with your own DataForSEO credentials or with the rented SEO Utils key, like Check Metrics. The dialog shows who pays: **Billed to your DataForSEO account** or **Billed to your SEO Utils credits**.
{% endhint %}

DataForSEO has Amazon search volume for these locations: Australia, Austria, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. Reports for other Amazon locations get suggestions but no Amazon volume, and the dialog says so.

## Managing Reports

The **Autocomplete Reports** page lists every run with its search engine, seed counts by type, number of keywords, and date.

Use the three-dot menu on a row to **View** or **Delete** a report. Select several reports and use **Bulk Actions > Move to Workspace** to move them to another [workspace](/guide/workspace.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
With [Remote Access](/guide/remote-access.md), the workspace owner can run Bulk Autocomplete, use the AI helper, and open reports from any browser.
{% endhint %}

## Best Practices

* **Start small.** Check the estimate before running thousands of seeds, and use [proxies](/guide/how-to-use-proxies.md) for large runs.
* **Exclude competitors and off-topic words** (brand names, "free", "near me") to keep the report focused.
* **Use `*` for positions you care about**, and keep the pattern filter on to stay on topic.
* **Keep AI seeds lean.** Pick only the ideas you would target; letters alone usually give enough suggestions for generated seeds.
* **Use templates for lists of things** — products, locations, breeds, methods — instead of typing every combination.
